On occasion a person is added into a family tree, but later is discovered to not be the person they were believed to be. To remove the person from the database, there are two options available
To delete a person from your database:
- With the individual highlighted on the Person page, do one of the following:
- Click the trash can and select Delete person
- Press the Delete key on the keyboard
- Select "Delete, Person" from the pop-up menu that appears when you right click the mouse.
- You will be asked if you want to delete the person. If you select "Delete person", RootsMagic will unlink the person from any family members and then remove the person from the database.
To delete a family from your database:
- With the one of the individuals in the family highlighted on the Person page, do one of the following:
- Click the trash can and select Delete family
- Press Ctrl+Delete on the keyboard
- Select "Delete, Family" from the pop-up menu that appears when you right click the mouse.
- A dialog showing the family members will appear. The dialog will offer two different delete options:
- Unlink family members (Unlink these people as a family, but leave the people in the file) – This option will unlink each of the people from each other and the other people in the database, but the people will still remain in the database.
- Delete family members (Delete all of these people from the database) – This option will unlink the family members from other people in the database, and will delete the family members from the database as well.
- Select the option you want, and then click the "Delete" button to delete or unlink the family members, or click "Cancel" to cancel.
