LDS Features
RootsMagic has several features tailored for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) to assist them in aspects of genealogy which are unique to their faith.
These features include:
- LDS Ordinance Entry Screen
- Viewing and reserving ordinances
- LDS List
- FamilySearch Family Tree integration
- Importing from FamilySearch Family Tree
These features are not enabled by default and must be activated by the user. To enable the LDS features:
- From the Settings Page select General Settings, and check "Enable FamilySearch"
- From the Settings Page select LDS Settings, and check "Enabled"
Preparing Names for the Temple
Before you can take a name to the temple, you must first reserve those names from the person's FamilySearch Person Tools screen. This simply tells FamilySearch that you intend to do that person's ordinances so that other people aren't trying to do it at the same time. Each person you reserve is added to your Temple tab on FamilySearch.
To begin preparing your reserved names for temple work, open FamilySearch Central and then click the Temple Work button. RootsMagic will take you directly to FamilySearch where you can see your reserved names, print your cards, or share your reserved names with family or friends.
LDS Ordinances
The LDS Ordinance dialog speeds up your data entry by allowing you to enter and edit the standard LDS ordinances in a single dialog. In order to use this feature, the LDS support option must be turned on.
You can enter the date, temple (or place), and status of the person's baptism, confirmation, initiatory, endowment, sealing to parents, and sealing to spouse. If the person has more than one spouse or set of parents, you can select the other spouses or parents from drop lists on the dialog.
The baptism and confirmation facts also allow you to select whether it was a live or temple (proxy) ordinance.
You may enter both a date and a status for an ordinance, so that you can track the date the "status" occurred. For example, you can enter "SUBMITTED" and a date to remind you what date you submitted the information.
When you click the OK button, RootsMagic will automatically update (or create) the appropriate facts in the person's fact list, and display the status in the fourth row in Info area.
