Color settings – opens a preview dialog showing the original and the resulting image, with six different controls to adjust the image – Contrast, HSV, HSL, RGB, Gamma correction, Sharpen – as well as other buttons and check boxes. Some of these image processing tools are advanced features. You might want to experiment with them if you are looking to improve the quality of an image. If you don't like the result just click the Reset button to return the settings to their original values.

Lock Preview – check this box to cause RootsMagic to instantly update the preview as you make the changes.  If you uncheck this box RootsMagic will display a Preview button (shown in figure above) that you must press to cause the changed settings to be displayed in the Result window.

<< – After the settings have been applied to the Results image on the right, you can copy the modified image to the left (to replace the original image) by clicking the button with the double arrows between the images. Rotate – lets you rotate the image to 90, 180, 270 degrees, or to rotate to a custom setting. In the preview dialog, you can enter the number of degrees, drag a slider to rotate the image, as well as flip the image and see the results. There is a checkbox to Lock preview, and buttons to Reset the settings to the original values, OK to save the changes, and Cancel to close the dialog and discard the changes.

Toolbar – The customizable toolbar, by default has two buttons, Zoom in, Zoom out. Click the down arrow at the right end to customize the toolbar.

You can edit the following information for the media: You can enter the following information for the media item:

  • Media type - the type of media (Image, File, Sound, or Video).
  • Filename - the file name of the media item (full path). You can either type in the full path name, or click the file icon on the far right of the filename field to select the file from the Open File dialog
  • Caption - a brief (one line) caption for the media item
  • Description - a more detailed description for the media item. Clicking this field will slide in the note editor to enter your description.
  • Date - an optional date for the media item. This can be used for any purpose you want, such as the date a photo was taken, or the date you entered it into the program.
  • Ref# - you can enter an optional reference number here. This is solely for your own use.

If you are editing the media from the Edit Person form, you will also see 2 additional options:

  • Scrapbook - check this box to include this photo in the scrapbook for the person
  • Primary - Make this the primary photo for the person

RootsMagic will also display the number of records which are currently using this media item. Click on the Tags link to see a list of every place the media item is used.
